This workshop will enable participants to make their own interactive exercises and activities which students can use on their iPad, Chromebook, tablet or PC. You'll learn how to embed these exercises in an iBooks Author book, as well as use them standalone.
You will play the role of the teacher as well as the student, and you'll learn how you can review, grade and provide feedback on student work. All of this will be done using the BookWidgets software. Cora Vries-Kloet and Ted van Deutokom are teachers at the Lentiz Onderwijsgroep, Netherlands where they have pioneered the use of the flipped classroom model in a range of subjects including Physics and Chemistry. |
Niels Vanspauwen co-founded BookWidgets together with Xavier Van Elsacker to put teachers in the driving seat of the digital classroom. Engaged students learn better, faster & gain a deeper understanding, and tablets can be a great way to pull students closer. Teachers are best placed to unlock this educational potential, by creating their own interactive learning material.
Maried to a teacher and a father of 3 kids, Niels has a strong interest in changing education for the better by making mobile technology simple and efficient for teachers and students. When he's not working, Niels is typically playing with his kids or enjoying the company of his wife. Niels Vanspauwen Co-Founder www.bookwidgets.com |

There are over a million apps - how do we decide which of these we are going to use for school, especially if this means spending money! We need to make decisions based on good pedagogic principles. Many of the apps on the education market offer information or “drill and practice” methods.
Explain Everything is different as it allows the user to create, "artefacts of understanding". These can be made by the teacher, to offer support and learning to the child - offering a real sense of personalisation; or these can be made by the pupil offering opportunities for the child to demonstrate their learning and understanding, to “explain everything” to their teacher. This session will look at this app and explore how it can be used in the classroom using Bloom as a pedagogic framework and drawing on the work of Fullan and Langworthy from 'A rich seam' (2014). We will aim to have some devices but if you can it would be useful to download the app onto a device - app costs about €3.50 For iOS - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/explain-everything-interactive/id431493086?mt=8 For Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.morriscooke.explaineverything&hl=en_GB |
